After the Independence of India, Government of India redesigned Previous King George VI Re.1 note in 1949 . The first issue of this note was issued by K R K Menon in 1949 and 2nd issue of same note was issued by K G Ambegaonkar in 1950. Both coloured one rupee notes of 1951 are very rare & valuable for collectors.
In the issue of 1957 to 1963 the design of the coin on the note was changed.
A completely new design was introduced in 1966 where the size of the note was reduced. Signing governors during this period were I.G.Patel in 1969 & ManMohan Singh in 1976.
This new design continued till 1994.
Due to the high cost of its production, the 1 Rupee note was discontinued and was finally reissued in the year 2015.
The One Rupee note again made an entry in 2015 by introducing few changes in the note of 1994.
